Virtualization

Server Virtualization
Server virtualization is a particularly important data center technology, delivering marked improvement in server efficiency and utilization rates. Studies show that up to one-third of servers running in U.S. data centers are plugged in and consuming electricity even though they are no longer needed, and many others are grossly underutilized, operating at no more than 26% of capacity. Our server virtualization expertise allows us to eliminate this waste by folding underutilized, dedicated servers into pools that can be freely allocated to meet demand. Running fewer systems at higher utilization also helps reduce power and cooling costs.
Desktop Virtualization
Desktop virtualization, meanwhile, improves organization-wide security and eases IT management and support burdens. Since everything is centrally managed, stored and secured, virtual desktops eliminate the need to install, update and patch applications, back up files and scan for viruses on individual devices.
Data Center Virtualization
Virtualization doesn’t just reduce data center costs — it also creates a more agile IT environment. The virtualization principles of abstraction, pooling and automation can be extended to deliver more storage capacity, more processing power and more bandwidth from less gear. Northstar’s flexible multivendor architectures utilize industry-leading compute, storage and virtualization technologies to create an efficient, easy-to-manage data center within a smaller footprint.
